AIDS Group Suing Pfizer Over Viagra Ads

The AIDS Healthcare Foundation has been complaining for more than a year to anyone who will listen that Viagra ads promote recreational sex and not an elixir for a medical problem. The organization, which is based in Los Angeles and last year filed a complaint with the Food and Drug Administration, is filing its lawsuit tomorrow morning in state court in California.

The group claims that Pfizer’s Viagra ads amount to “unlawful and deceptive marketing” and have led to risky behavior. As a result, Viagra and its ads “caused an increase in the spread of sexually transmitted diseases including but not limited to HIV/AIDS.”

In an effort to get a rise out of Pfizer, the organization is holding a press conference at The New York Helmsley Hotel, which is located on East 42nd Street, which is - you guessed it - right across from Pfizer headquarters. And it will take place at 10 a.m., just a few hours before Pfizer’s chief executive tells Wall Street about his much-awaited cost-cutting plans.
