Cancer Docs Must Disclose Financial Ties

The new policy is being adopted by the Americn Society of Clinical Oncology.

The idea, which is spelled out in the latest issue of the Journal of Clinical Oncology, is to put an end to the leaks about clinical trials to Wall Street firms, which amount to insider information.

The policy is the strictest of any medical group. And it’s pretty significant - the ASCO, which is based in Alexandria, Va., has more than 23,000 members worldwide.

“We want to caution our members that they could get in some trouble by doing this,” said Allen Lichter, chief executive officer of the group, told Bloomberg News. “This is not just innocent conversation.”
