AstraZeneca is going to spend $100 million to expand its research and development center in Waltham, Mass., and build a 382,000 square-foot facility. This will add 100 jobs on top of the 400 the drugmaker already employs.
Increasingly, Beantown is the place to be if you want to do drug research - Novartis, Merck and Schering-Plough have all located or expanded operations in and around the scrappy city recently. That’s a big issue for New Jersey, which likes to call itself the Nation’s Medicine Chest, since so many big pharma companies are headquartered there.
Looks like shelf space is opening up, though. [tags]AstraZeneca, Boston, Merck, Novartis, Schering-Plough[/tags]
