Tax revenues will fall nearly $13 million; up to $5 million in charitable donations will dry up; 2,100 jobs going away; total economic impact: $198 million sucked out of the region.
“This is like taking the heart out of Ann Arbor,” the local United Way president tells The Detroit News.
Not a pretty picture. And you can be sure, in the future, drugmakers will point to Ann Arbor as an example of what can happen to a town or region when they pull up stakes, whatever the reason.
