Abbott Laying Off Hundreds of Sales Reps

A conference call was held this afternoon with sales reps to explain the cutbacks and the thinking behind new assignments in the wake of Abbott’s recent purchase of Kos Pharmaceuticals. Reps and managers willl be notified specifically next week.
The upshot: several hundreds jobs are being eliminated from the combined companies. An Abbott spokesman confirmed the layoffs from the primary care sales force, but declined to provide any specifics or that the layoffs represent 20 percent of the combined primary care sales forces.
