Joe Mahady, 53, was just named global head of pharmaceuticals and a senior vice president. He’ll continue reporting to Bernard Poussot, who last month was made president, chief operating officer, vice chairman and board member.
Until now, Mahady, who joined Wyeth in 1979 in regulatory affairs, oversaw the drug biz in the US, as well as running biotech and vaccines. He’s adding responsibility for the global drug biz in Europe, the MidEast, Africa and Asia, as well as the nutrition unit.
The promotion isn’t surprising. The silky tongued Mahady was the company emcee at the latest briefing for Wall Street analysts and fund managers in midtown Manhattan a few months ago. This kept him in front of the crowd repeatedly throughout the day. The move also shores up succession planning.
Meanwhile, Geno Germano, 46, was bumped up to US president and general manager of the drug biz andl continues to report to Mahady.
