As the chart shows, most aren’t concerned, but not necessarily for good reason. This was is a key finding of a survey of 425 manufacturing folks by Pharmaceutical Manufacturing, the industry mag.
In discussing security, one pessimist wrote: “With the changes in the economy and pressures on the market, I see further reductions and outsourcing to India and China, which will become more pronounced if drug price controls are put in place by the U.S. government, and these controls will stifle R&D and production.”

Says another: “People don’t feel that they will spend a long time at any one company, so they feel no loyalty and feel that the company has none for them.” In other words, why waste time worrying about job security when there really isn’t any?
Meanwhile, about 50 percent say they get satisfaction on the job, although 46 percent acknowledged higher workloads thanks to staff cuts. And the respondents reported varying degrees of discrimination against women, engineers and the over-50 crowd. There is money to be made, however, with 35 percent saying they earn between $100,000 and $200,000.
One person wrote sage advice: “Learn politics.”
