P&G Wants to Arouse European Women

The consumers products maker is hot to market a female ‘passion patch’ called Intrinsa to women whose ovaries were removed surgically and now have a low sexual desire. The product uses testosterone to restore sex drive in post-menopausal women. A report says that sales will begin in France and Germany any day.
Why not sell Intrinsa in the U.S.? Surely, there are women who would welcome such a patch. Well, there’s a catch - three years ago, an FDA advisory committee bounced P&G’s application and asked for more long-term safety data. The FDA worried some docs would prescribe Intrinsa for specific populations that weren’t included in the study.
Never mind such concerns. There is money to be made. And if P&G is told that it’s okay to target European docs, then why should Europe’s women be concerned?
Meanwhile, a P&G spokeswoman told The Cincinnati Enquirer there are no U.S. studies under way right now. But please explain: if Intrinsa is so darn good, why not run a few studies?
