I'm not surprised it took so long to get a reply.

Probably cost $49 too...

Yes, I know. Sorry.

I am wondering about all of this... in regards to the US and the VA. US does not care about their Vets!

Here is why:

Written to someone I hoped would help me on April 21, 2008:

We spent the day at Emergency yesterday. The VA changed manufacturers of his Gabapentin (Neurontin) He has been taking Yellow/Brown/R-2666. They switched to Yellow & White/Capsule/APO 113

The reaction was violent... in regards to vomiting and stomach pain. We finally went to Emergency. He was then going through withdraw from all meds because he could not hold them down. The last couple days have been awful.

Sooo I am trying to find out the difference between the two in case they give us some BS that there is no difference. VA probably bought the new ones on the cheap. I am trying to make a case as to why they have to give him his old stuff back. They are always doing stuff like this and I feel like it is hard enough ya know?

----

So now.. that my husband is not recovering well, I wrote this to a friend as well:

I am wondering if this seems normal to you?

Here are the symptoms that Dennis is concerned about since his Gabapentin trauma. (He has since been issued his original script but still has issues.)

All of these things are more than what is usual for him. He is concerned that this will now be the norm for him now. He is concerned that it could be like Agent Orange where they could have done something for him before, but now it is too late.

Eyes- are light sensitive and vision is shaky, he says that he is having a hard time focusing on things.

Walking- very wobbly and shaky. He needs to hold on to the rail when going down the stairs of our entryway and be careful of his steps.

Stomach- is still very upset and he is not eating as much.

Ears- hearing is plugged up.

Headache- not as strong as it was but it is still present.

Overall body pain - has increased.

... in general says he does not feel like he has recovered well from those bad meds. Do you think that sounds normal?

---------------

I discovered this on the internet:

The bad Gabapentin:

Manufacturer / Distributor
Major Pharmaceuticals Inc.
They say US but it is in association with AstraZeneca and Ranbaxy (Ranbaxy is out of India)

I noticed there was a lawsuit settlement: AstraZeneca settles Ranbaxy and feel suspicious of this.

MUMBAI, Nov 16, 2007 (Reuters) - Indian drugmaker Ranbaxy Laboratories Ltd (RANB.BO: Quote, Profile, Research) is recalling some gabapentin tablets in the United States.

------
So here I am trying to find out about ALL of this! Can anyone suggest anything?

Ranbaxy recalled 73 million Gabapentin tablets in the US in Novmbr 2007 due to high levels of impurities in these tablets .Chances are that these tablets were supplied to countries all over the world but recalled only in America .How it can be that drug regulators in other countries do not reach at the obvious conclusion that same company may be selling contaminated drugs in their country as well ? Yesterday Ranbaxy received 7 critical 483s indicating fraudulent data integrity issues .

Major Fraud unearthed by USFDA at Ranbaxy Bata Mandi plant

In a major blow to Ranbaxy , the officer of criminal investigations of US FDA , Mr Jose Hernandez unearthed a serious fraud at the new Bata Mandi facility near Paonta Sahib.During the first day of the Pre Approval Inspection conduted on March 3rd , the investigator found that the Equipment validation was completed prior to even receipt of the granulation equipment used for Tacrolimus capsule exhibit batches .There were no human resources at the site for last full year whereas the chief of technical operations Mr Ramesh Parekh showed that many people were actually working at the new site .The investigation will be completed on 7th March 2008 .The inspector has taken interviews of key technical staff to record their versions so that criminal investigations can be proven.

The name of people who were shown as part of the R and D / manufacturing had no records to prove that they actually had taken trial batches .This will become another case like Able labs in USA which had to shut down after the frauds were found .

US FDA had again raided the US facilities and offices again in end of 2007 to find discrepancies .Actually the Ranbaxy guys are too smart and they have been managing the inspections over a long time now but this will not continue for long .For info to some , I am a freelance journalist and has no relationship with Ranbaxy .The only objective is to bring out the truth .

All those people on this blog who are saying that this is untrue will find in next few weeks when US FDA will sue them .This is nothing but spoiling the name of India in the Pharmaceutical world .

Hmmm...Maybe. Not clear. The Able mess became clearer the other day. Check out the post (look under Able in our Tags section) detailing the court proceedings and guilty pleas. But you ask a good question, certainly. Nothing like a an old-fashoined raid to set you wondering.
