This is a big one for the drugmaker, which otherwise has a rather meager pipeline.
Tykerb can be used in conjunction with Roche’s cancer drug Xeloda. A study published last year showed that the combination delayed tumor growth for an average of 8.5 months, or about twice as long when compared to treatment with Xeloda alone. Wall Street believes Tykerb will generate about $1 billion in sales by 2015 or so. Tykerb, which will cost about $40,000 a year, was found to help women fight breast cancer when they don’t respond to Roche and Genentech’s Herceptin.
