Time for the booster shot for those succulent fish. Trout farmers are being reminded to put Schering-Plough’s Aqua-Vac in the feed so the slithery ones don’t develop ERM, or enteric redmouth disease. This can lead to poor growth and even death.
Follow the plan, though, and you should have confidence that your “portion size trout will reach the end of the production cycle” protected from infection, Keith Morris, UK sales manager with Schering-Plough Aquaculture, tells TheFishSite.com.
The drugmaker, which is showing increasing interest in all sorts of creatures through its animal health unit, has been selling its Aqua-Vac in the UK for six years and last year received approval to peddle its vaccination in 14 other European countries.
No word, however, on whether any trout oppose vaccinating their under-age progeny.
