Sapphire Therapeutics, a private specialty company that’s working on compounds to treat the muscle wasting, fatigue and weight loss associated with cancer, has promoted Bill Polvino to ceo and president. Polvino, an MD who joined the little New Jersey company five years ago, has worked for Wyeth, Merck and Theravance during his former lives.
Meanwhile, Herb Conrad, the former Roche exec who joined the Sapphire board last year and was interim ceo and prez, has been named chairman. Herb will keep busy, though. He currently serves on the boards of Celldex Therapeutics, Symphony Evolution and Savient Pharmaceuticals.
