Nestle is expected to announce tomorrow a $5 billion deal to acquire Gerber. Neither company would comment, according to a Reuters report citing several sources.

This deal has been anticipated for months. Reports swirled months ago that Nestle was interesting in buying the baby food company and the delay is likely attributed to reaching terms. This is what Novartis ceo Dan Vasella said in January:

“We are concentrating on healthcare and, with that, it is obvious that some pieces, like Gerber, are not really a core business. But, having said that, it is a fantastic brand, it does extremely well, it’s growing profitably and it’s very competitive in its segment, so there is no urgent need to divest.”

The drugmaker has been shedding several noncore businesses in recent years. In December, Novartis sold its medical-nutrition division to Nestle for $2.5 billion. The drugmaker’s three main businesses, of course, are prescription meds, generics and vaccines.
