Harry Reid: His View Of Republicans

Plain Speaking: The Senate Majority Leader Shares His Feelings:

“We’re going to do something the Republicans hate, and that is allowing Medicare to negotiate for lower price prescription drugs. They hate it because they are owned by the Pharmaceutical industry. The most well-paid lobbyists, who walk around in their Gucci shoes and are driven up to Capitol Hill in their limousines, chauffeur-driven limousines, are preventing us from moving to have Medicare be able to negotiate for lower price drugs.”[tags]Harry Reid, Medicare[/tags]

Are we to believe Harry Reid’s “bird” in the accompanying photo was directly connected to the comments he made to you regarding his disdain for pharma lobbyists and support of pricing negotiation for Medicare?

Pretty powerful image to toss in without explanation. In fact, I’d say it would be among the most provacative examples of unexplained reporting by a mainstream pharma beat journalist I’ve ever seen. So, what means this stake in the ground, Ed?

    Call me crazy….

    Thanks,

    F

  2. Hi F,

Thanks for writing. Good point. The ‘bird’ may or may not have been taken in connection with those specific remarks.

For better or worse, images are often used to accompany items - on web sites and in print . Newspapers use the term ‘file photo.’ Pharmalot doesn’t. Of course, this may be an opportunity to revisit the policy.

I wasn’t putting a ’stake in the ground,’ and I’m not sure I would agree this was ‘unexplained reporting.’ It was a quote and a photo. No reportage.

With that said, his gesture would appear to match the tone of his remarks. If he had nice things to say about Republicans and big pharma, I would’ve opted for a shot showing Harry with a big grin or hugging someone.

    Cheers
    ed
