How does LaVerne Council, the new chief information officer at Johnson & Johnson who arrived from Dell last year, spend her typical day?
About 25 percent is spent in various meetings with any number of people. Another 25 to 30 percent is occupied by hanging with her direct reports. Then, Council estimates another 25 percent is devoted to interacting with J&J management and business-unit leaders.
But what about the rest of the time? “I think the part that’s left, I spend time learning. I spend time meeting people in other organizations, understanding what they’re doing, understanding what their challenges are, reading,” she says. “Of course, there’s the dreaded email that comes in from all over the place.”
Even the CIO can’t make it stop!
