Medications4Less, a nearly five-year-old New Jersey reseller of prescription meds from Canada, was shut down by the New Jersey state attorney general this morning amid allegations the company filled prescriptions wrtten by bogus doctors. Karen Azarchi, who ran the Internet business from her Princeton Junction, NJ, home says she can’t comment right now.
The state used undercover agents who placed orders and received antidepressants even though scrips were written by a fictitous doctor who were listed on a state database with a suspended license and another who wasn’t listed at all. Investigators also received too many pills.
Another order involved two drugs that can cause dangerous, sometimes fatal, interactions, an were prescribed by two different bogus docs. Mediciations4Less also allegedly filled a scrip for an oral contraceptive written by a fictitious dentist with an expired license.
“Major red flags that should have stopped orders from being filled were either ignored or disregarded by the defendants,* says NJ atorney general Stu Rabner. The six-count complaint alleges Medications4Less engaged in pharmacy practice without a license and violated NJ’s Consumer Fraud Act. Federal law also prohibits importation of prescription drugs from abroad.
