The amounts reflect what the industry spent to lobby the federal government between 1998 and 2006. Last year, PhRMA spent more than $18 million on lobbying, more than any single drug company and the most the group spent in one year since 1998, the earliest year of this analysis. In all, PhRMA has spent $104 million since 1998.
Between January 2005 and June 2006, drug and device makers, along with manufactuers of other health products, spent $182 million on federal lobbying, according to a report issued today by Center for Public Integrity. Hot topics during that period included Medicare Part D, FDA reform, patent legislation, importation and Project Bioshield.
