The Doc’s Office: ‘A Big Bucket Of Money!’

This may not be a good Friday for Mike Zubillaga. He’s the regional sales director, oncology for AstraZeneca’s Mid-Atlantic region. In the company’s Oncology Newsletter Winter 2007 Issue 1, Mike gives a revealing question-and-answer interview.

This is what Mike says about doctors:

“There is a big bucket of money sitting in every office. Every time you go in, you reach your hand in the bucket and grab a handful. The more times you are in, the more money goes in your pocket. Every time you make a call, you are looking to make more money.”

Crass, but some may well be motivated by such imagery. Of course, many docs know that’s what the sales teams think of them. That’s why some docs hold out for expensive meals, nice trips and good seats to good games, and why others won’t let the sales rep past reception.

(For the record, Peter Rost, the Pfizer exec-cum-whistleblower, posted a copy on his blog earlier, and was kind enough to share).
