India’s Drugmakers On A Shopping Spree

Indian drugmakers are increasingly buying up other companies. This week, Sun Pharmaceutical agreed to pay $454 million for Israel’s Taro Pharmaceutical Industries. Here are the latest big deals:
* Dr. Reddy’s bought Germany’s Betapharm for $572 million in February 2006;
* Sun Pharma will buy Israel’s Taro for $454 million this year;
* Ranbaxy Labs bought Romania’s Terapia for $324 million in March 2006;
* Wockhardt will buy France’s Negma Labs for $265 million this year.
