Lilly Buys Drugs For Cows And Pigs

Selling a repackaged version of Prozac for dogs isn’t enough. Animal meds are all the rage among some drugmakers and Lilly is very much in this horse race.
Today, the drugmaker has signed a deal to buy Ivy Animal Health, which makes meds to bolster cows and pigs, and also manages a database about the use of these products. There was no purchase price mentioned in Lilly’s statement.
This isn’t a new direction for Lilly, by the way. The drugmaker already owns Elanco animal health. In many ways, this is an easier business - farmers don’t seem to cluck much about marketing practices and patients don’t squeal about side effects.
