Six months after an options-dating investigation forced founder Donald Drakeman out of the corner office, Medarex announces the former Chiron ceo, Howard Pien, will take his place. Pien starts on June 14, when he replaces interim ceo, Irwin Lerner, who will remain on the board.

Pien left Chiron last April, when the vaccine maker was acquired by Novartis. Pien presided over Chiron during a tumultuous time. The company was hammered for production problems that critics say was caused by Pien’s overly aggressive expansion plans.
