Would You Encourage A Friend To Become A Sales Rep?

Only if you’re not interested in remaining friends. At least that’s the take-away message from the latest poll at CafePharma, where sales reps love to dish about docs and detailing.
The survey, which has been going on since January, suggests most reps who value their friendships - or 72 percent - would urge their pals to find a different job. Which job? That didn’t come up, but if the housing market picks up, maybe selling aluminum siding is an option.
Here are the results:
Yes, for sure! It is a great job! - 25, or 10.6 percent;
Probably yes - 40, or 17 percent;
Probably no - 61, or 26 percent;
Hell no! You would have to be crazy - 109, or 46.4 percent.

Looks like Clint has an uphill struggle.

This is interesting. In spite of pretty good pay and still lot of free time if one knows how to work “smart” not hard, the big pharma reps are not a very happy bunch. Is it that the job is too easy, too hard or too boring. One of the reasons maybe that it does not give one much of a sense of satisfaction or feeling that one is a real business person. With all those multyple sales forces and multiple selas reps competing for doctors time, all the rep gets to do is a two minute sales pitch and/or geting the all important signature. Once this is done rep goest to another office and boom the same. By the end of the day, if they don’t give up and go home at noon, not much of to show for in terms of acheivement for the day.
Having described the job, one wonders what is the reality out there? When there are openings how many young people apply for each pharma rep. opening?
In Canada for instance, young well educated men and women, would literaly “kill” for a big pharma job. Everyone from nurses to any well educated person wants it. The travel, the benefits, the co car, the expense accounts and so on are the big draw. However for many as in this survey the reality kicks in after a while and they wonder if there is more to business life then getting signatures and kissing doctors a…es while being asked/ordered to do many unethical and even illegal things.
So if you do recommend to friend to join, maybe a competitor big pharma would be preferable.
