Poll Results: PhRMA’s ‘Friend’ Was No Spy

spy.jpgLate last week, PhRMA senior vp Ken Johnson denied accusations by Michael Moore that the trade group planted a spy at the recent debut of SiCKO in Cannes. Johnson told BusinessWeek that a Hollywood friend was in the audience and phoned to tell him about the flick. That’s what prompted Moore to PhRMA with being underhanded.

So we asked you: ‘What do you think? Was it really a friend or a spy?’

Friend - 35 votes, or 52 percent
Spy - 32 votes, or 48 percent

A few thoughts: For starters, this was a weekend poll, which explains the light turnout. The results are close because this is a he-said, she-said sort of moment - there’s just some fingerpointing (although Pharma Marketing this morning wrote that PhRMA intern was behind this). And both Moore and PhRMA seem to polarize audiences by evoking equally strong reactions.

One further possibility: Ken Johnson might’ve gotten wind of the poll and called some friends to vote several times. We’ll have to ask Moore for some insight into this notion.
