The cuts are being made at manufacturing and distribution facilities in Lititz, Pa., within two years, The Lancaster (Pa.) Intelligencer-Journal reports.
The Lititz plant, which operates as McNeil-PPC, a Johnson & Johnson subsidiary, employs about 800 workers. But beginning in September the company will begin slashing between 300 to 340 jobs, the company said on Wednesday. Both salaried and hourly positions, including members of Local 670 of the United Steel Workers, will be affected.
Sandy Pound, a McNeil spokesperson, told the newspaper that the cuts are a result of “ongoing efforts to improve efficiencies and remain competitive” since the company purchased the facilities from Pfizer Dec. 21, 2006. “The announcement follows a comprehensive study of both the manufacturing and logistics operations at the Lititz site,” she added.
