Pfizer Not Doing Exclusives With Trial Sites

Last week, we wrote that Pfizer has been telling clinical trial sites they must choose whether to do work for Pfizer or some other drugmaker - but they can’t handle trials for everyone at once. The idea, which was first reported by the ClinPage blog and picked up by many others, including us, was believed to be the first attempt of its kind to control investigators, and research costs.
The item cited remarks by Pfizer’s Andy Lee, who heads worldwide clinical development, at the recent Drug Information Association meeting. But Andy says his remarks were misrepresented. In an amiable chat yesterday, he told Pharmalot that “we would never do exclusive deals. It doesn’t made good business sense. And it’s not our policy, now or in the future.”
This morning, ClinPage posted a correction. And so do we. For your information, Pharmalot often relies on other sources, much like a newspaper runs a story provided by the Associated Press or Bloomberg News. Other blogs sometimes fall into that category. And just like other media, some are more reliable than others. Nonetheless, mistakes are made (please see page two of The New York Times); this time, ClinPage made a mistake.
We don’t wish to repeat others’ mistakes, though, and work hard to ensure our information is accurate. But when mistakes occur, we will correct them, however they transpire. We trust you understand. However, if there are ever any questions, please feel free to write. The editor is in.
