In the wake of Wyeth’s acquisition of Haptogen, which was announced last Friday, curious minds may want to know more about what the big drugmaker is getting. However, that’s not possible. Wyeth has taken the Haptogen web site down. A visit to the site - type in www.haptogen.com - routes us to the Wyeth site (and the cached version is of no help, either). UPDATE: A reader writes to remind us that a peek at archives.org can be illuminating. So try this out.
A UK pension fund has been appointed to as the lead plaintiff in a US class action lawsuit against Glaxo over charges the drugmaker misled investors by withholding info about the risks of its Avandia diabetes pill. Avon Pension Fund, which manages around $2 billion on behalf of public sector workers, was appointed lead plaintiff over the weekend, The Times of London reports.
The race to develop new sleeping pills is keeping drugmakers wide awake, BusinessWeek writes, noting that there are more than a dozen insomnia compounds in phase II and phase III clinical trials, many with mechanisms of action different from the ones used by Sanofi-Aventis’ Ambien and Sepracor’s Lunesta.
