The headline comes from the wire service, but unfortunately it is misleading. Yes, the newer drugs had no better efficacy than older drugs; but, the article also implied that the older drugs have more side effects–”estrogen and raloxifene can have serious side effects such as strokes, blood clots in the lungs or bleeding in the uterus.” In the end, most patients and physicians care about both efficacy and safety.
