Surprise?! Vytorin Scrips Keep Declining

Usage by primary care docs has declined to 5 percent from 15 percent of so-called new treatment decisions - another way of saying a doctor deciding to write a Vytorin prescription for a patient for the first time. Among cardiologists, the decline has been less severe - from 15 percent of new treatment decisions to around 8 percent, according to ImpactRx.
Meanwhile, Zetia’s share of this treatment population has declined from about 8 percent to less than 5 percent among primary care docs and cardiologists. Zetia and Zocor, of course, are the components found in Vytorin. Switching from Vytorin and Zetia is driving the trend, along with less initial use among patients new to cholesterol meds.
