Do You Have Motivational Deficiency Disorder?

Lacking motivation? Having trouble achieving your goals? One in five people do. But no worries. Consumer International has the answer for those of you who suffer this serious affliction - mild, moderate or severe. It’s called Strivor (you know, as in striving), which can push you to do your shopping or clean the oven. The little blue pill is the group’s answer to what it calls ‘unethical and irresponsible’ pharma marketing.

So it’s created a campaign called Marketing Overdose that includes a series of five tongue-in-cheek videos to peel the curtain back on patient groups that partner with pharma (raise your hand if you belong to Unmotivated Anonymous), DTC advertising and gifts to docs. There’s also a fictitious ’secret training video’ for maximizing drug sales, which features a key opinion leader and, of course, motivational dinners for docs, who are served Bollinger champagne.

“Prescription drugs have brought many benefits for many people, but their marketing is mired in controversy. Weak government regulation and inadequate industry codes mean that drug companies are using irresponsible marketing to push their pills on doctors, the public and patients,” according to CI, which wants “an overhaul of the rules governing drug marketing. Governments must take their responsibilities seriously. And drug companies must do much more to improve their conduct and make their industry codes more effective.
