Excel And Exceed: A Pfizer Theme Song?

When times are tough, the tough start singing. And supposedly, the tune being sung on 42nd Street - where Pfizer headquarters is located - is this hymn, which recently began circulating. A Pfizer spokesman says he is unable to verify that this emanated from the drugmaker or any of its ad agencies, but promises to get back to us. So while we wait, we thought we would share it with you. After all, it is catchy and has a motivational theme. Even if Jeff Kindler can’t take credit, he may want to sing along.

  1. Yikes. The orchrestration and voice has a Bollywood flavor - possible the song constitutes patent infringement?

In any case, it ain’t no “Celebrex!”.

  2. Thanks. You, no doubt, mean “catchy” like infectious disease.

The only apparent antidote is to chant, “It’s a small world, after all…”

  3. Reminds me of the 1999 150th Anniversary celebration the company held at Lincoln Center in NYC (and broadcast worldwide). Lots of songs and celebration - of course the company was growing and the stock was rising back then too. As an X-Pfizerite, I hope the company gets itself steadied and moves forward again - there are lots of good people there, although many have also left….

  4. There is no way this is official Pfizer unless it started in a small country operation. While Kindler is a terrible manager and while he lacks any deep understanding of the industry, if you have ever seen him in action you know one thing — that he is incredible on the stage. I was there when Kindler first came to Pfizer and he took the whole Town Hall idea to a new level. His approach was polished and professionally orchestrated. He is a master of communication. He can take bulls*** issues like the Pfizer core values and sell them like an evangelical minister (even though he is obviously not evangelical!). How he ended up in law is beyond me, he is a salesman. When I see his talents it strikes me as a little sad. He is so incredibly gifted, if there was just some real substance there, any form of genuine caring or long-term interest in pharmaceutical development, he could move mountains. But like so many of the PhRMA senior execs of today, he has a short-term interest that will be Pfizer’s undoing.

  5. Maybe so, but can he sing?

  6. I will sing if Jiffy can’t.

  7. Joe - Maybe so but this x Pfizerite was not fooled….I didn’t buy his snake oil and fortunate for me left before it all hit the fan in Ann Arbor.

  8. When LaMattina came up on stage at a Pfizer rally the song that was playing was “I wanna new drug” and Kindler jabbed at LaMattina with his rolled-up speech in a not so friendly manner and said more or less “That’s your song - how do you like it?” LaMattina’s expression when he got to the top step and turned around was priceless - he knew he was a marked man. And now he is gone.

Jeff contributes bigtime to the Westport playhouse and other theatre causes, he has the flair for drama and knows how to control the audience.
