On the eve of a meeting with Wall Street analysts and fund managers this week, Pfizer tries to show skeptical investors that key actions are being taken to bolster its ailing business. And so the drugmaker hires William Ringo, who has spent most of the past few years as a venture capitalist, as senior vice president of strategy and business development.
Ringo is currently the ceo-in-residence at Warburg Pincus and executive-in-residence at Sofinnova Ventures. From July 2004 to April 2006, he was ceo and president at Abgenix which was later bought by Amgen. Ringo is also a founding member of Pearl Street Venture Funds, which was founded in 2000. From 1973 until his retirement in 2001, he held various senior roles at Lilly; his last job was as president of oncology and critical care products.
