What Will They Think Of Next?

zyrtec-pole-ad.jpgFor all the talk about directing advertising dollars toward the Internet, a few obvious places may have been overlooked. Such as telephone poles. After all, these can be found just about anywhere and it doesn’t cost much to tack up an ad.

As you can see, this one is for the Zyrtec allergy med, which is sold over-the-counter by Johnson & Johnson’s McNeil unit. And that, of course, means that only one piece of paper has to be stapled to the pole, instead of a few more sheets that list all the fine print that is required of ads for prescription meds. Of course, if that kind of info can be condensed onto just one page, perhaps we’ll soon see telephone poles across the country littered with drug ads, and tear-off coupons, too.

The 800-number listed, by the way, directs you to a Zyrtec web site. But you probably might have guessed that, yes? For more, look here.

  1. John Mack and I have been debating the legality of this approach.

  2. Possible unknown fact,

This new generation of drugs, when first marketed, claimed less sedation than your beneadryls. The claim is deceptive because at the doses claimed to halt sedation proved over time to be ineffective for relief.

  3. Dan, your fact is unknown because its not true. Allegra and Claritin are both still considered nonsedating and while efficacy varies by individual, most allergy sufferers can find pretty good relief from one or the other. Zyrtec has always been classified as low sedating and is considered to be very efficacious.
