The PowerPoint part of the story is pathetic, but could be just a funny anecdote if not for its meaning: the end of (another) natural research facility in big pharma. I'm looking forward to the massive application of new high-throughput technologies (for sample analysis and processing, for genetic engineering of microbes and plants...) -- it might result in the so-much-needed acceleration of drug discovery from natural products.
