A year after the drugmaker touted its Alli diet pill as the next hot thing to help an overweight America fit into that bathing suit and tight dress, the mastermind behind the whole campaign has resigned. A new post on the official Alli blog says Steve Burton, whose official title was vp of Weight Control for GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare has left, but no further info was disclosed.
Burton was not only an enthusiastic promoter of the Glaxo fat pill, but also wrote about his own experiences trying to lose weight, such as the time he confessed to suffering from Alli ‘treatment effects,’ a tortured euphemism for having to run to the bathroom more frequently thanks to the drug.
His departure, by the way, occurs shortly after one Wall Street analyst called Alli sales “pretty underwhelming.” No word yet from Glaxo spokespeople about the change. Karen Scollick, meanwhile, has been shifted to his job.
