Senate Committee Targets Continuing Medical Ed

cme1The ongoing concerns over how CME is used to propel prescriptions has attracted the attention of Herb Kohl, a Democrat from Wisconsin who heads the Special Senate Committee on Aging. In a June 20 letter to the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education, he asks the group to provide info about its accrediting process; the criteria used to validate course content; safeguards against undue industry influence and any plan the ACCME has to keep pharma in a manageable corner. Here is the letter.

  1. Thanks for link to the letter, Ed.

I have to say I’m more than a little perplexed about why the Senate Committee on Aging would be interested in a CME program that concerns pregnancy management. Couldn’t the Committee’s investigators find a more relevant and objectionable CME program to cite? http://bmartinmd.com/2008/06/kohl-targets-kopelow-and-the-a.html
