Novartis Contractor Ran Brothel From His Desk

prostitutionA contractor for Novartis was charged with running a prostitution ring from his desk at the drugmaker in suburban New Jersey, while the actual ’services’ were provided at a veterinarian clinic several miles away, according to the Somerest County, New Jersey, prosecutor’s office.

David Baker, 35, was arrested following a two-month investigation dubbed “Operation Net-Vet Harlot” that began with an ad on craigslist.org, offering “erotic services.” An undercover detective responded to the ad, and ultimately set up an appointment to meet with a woman at the veterinary facility earlier this month.

An undercover female police officer posing as a prostitute in need of a pimp then contacted Baker, who offered to recruit and screen potential johns for the officer in exchange for money. The officer arranged a meeting with Baker earlier this week at the upscale Short Hills Mall, where he was charged with third-degree promoting prostitution and third-degree conspiracy to promote prostitution.

As you may imagine, Novartis was not thrilled to field questions about Baker’s activities, but did send us a statement saying he is employed by Kelly Temp Services, a company contracted to provide services to Novartis. However, he no longer works there, and the drugmaker maintains that it holds employees and contractors to the highest ethical standards. Novartis also wants us to know it is cooperating with authorities, whose investigation is ongoing.

  8. Hey I believe it the Pres should know that the workers there do nothing all day… I was able to run my real estate business from my desk while I worked there made over 50k in comission thanks Novartis

  9. It is said among temp-ers that Kelly does not give contractors as big a cut of the company’s fee as other temp services. No wonder he had to be resourceful and proactive, as it were.

  10. So, it it not allowed by the code? Good to know…
Could he be transfered to Nevada? Is it OK if you do it in Nevada?
