Nothing like pressure from federal prosecutors to get a company to turn over documents. Earlier this month, the US Attorney in Maryland went to court to force the Indian generic drugmaker to release audits that may shed light on allegations Ranbaxy falsified records resulting in the production and sale of generic meds that didn’t meet FDA standards.
Today, Ranbaxy filed its response and notes that it is now prepared to release the audits, which were conducted by Paraxel, and no longer claims attorney-client privilege as a reason for the audits to remain under wraps. At the same time, Ranbaxy maintains it “knows of no evidence to support (the) allegations,” but will cooperate with the government.
Meanwhile, Ranbaxy released a statement saying its planned sale to Daiichi Sankyo, in which the Japanese drugmaker agreed to pay $4.6 billion, is “binding and final and remains on track.” However, their shares fell on the news of the move by the feds.
