Botox Claims Are Enough To Give You A Headache

Or is it the other way around? Allergan, which sells the controversial wrinkle remover, may help relieve migraines. And the drugmaker plans to ask the FDA next to approve Botox for chronic migraines, based on preliminary analysis of two new studies. In other words, the message is that Botox can help your head inside and out.
Allergan said the studies showed patients injected with Botox reported significantly fewer migraine days compared with those who received placebo injections, although full results will not be published until next year. Here is the statement.
Whether Botox will replace aspirin remains to be seen. You may recall the FDA earlier this year warned that Botox, Botox Cosmetic (type A) and Myobloc (type B) have been linked to various adverse reactions, including respiratory failure and death, following treatment for various conditions. The reactions may be due to overdosing, and so far, there’s no evidence that the side effects are related to product defects. Back story.

For this type of therapy, caution possibly should be utilized. It’s a relatively new treatment, and Botox, by definition, is posion, just like coumadin (rat posion.

they’ve had so many failed studies in the past so forgive me if I’m skeptical that a few new studies should be enough to get approval.

I think most pharma drugs come with a warning of side-effects, and that in rare cases they might be deadly. But are still consumed because such reactions are rare.
To me it’s heartening that an existing drug can potentially treat migraine. The only thing is, as Dan says that “caution should be utilized.”

While I appreciate this article, a few things need to be pointed out. First of which, BOTOX has a long track record of safety and has been shown effective for many therapeutic purposes over the last 20 years. As for it being a poison, as the comment suggests it is but so also is Coumadin…and Coumadin has probably saved thousands of lives. Used correctly, BOTOX can be a very effective means for addressing headaches.
