The privately held drugmaker will from two Danish and a Finnish plant to other sites around Europe - Germany, Poland, Austria and Norway - leaving 10 facilities to produce its meds. Most of the job cuts, about 190, will be made in Denmark.
“Our decisions to restructure our manufacturing network will allow Nycomed to remain competitive in a tough market environment, where pressure on costs and fast market introduction has become critical,” Barthold Piening, Nycomed’s executive vp of operations, says in a statement. “Regrettably this is not possible without a reduction of a number of positions. However, we all have to acknowledge that this change is an essential precondition to secure the long-term success of the company.”
