my father-in-law was involved in the guidant tabacle. he died from a recalled defibrillator. you know what the courts gave us? $1600 for the entire family! $400 per adult child. what a crock! can guidant be liable if obama does away with preemption as he promised? we rather have our family member back, but more money could help. besides, getting such a low amount on a lawsuit would hardly hurt guidant corporation and are not too pressed to do this again and hurt others. is there a petition to sign to get what we really deserve?

I am posting this again, since a number of old Pharmalot friends have joined the discussions on PharmaLittle, and preemption has been a key issue for many of us for a very long time.

FOR FRIENDS WHO STILL STOP BY... In fondest tribute to Ed Silverman and his extraordinary Pharmalot site, and with appreciation to the Newark Star Ledger for sponsoring Pharmalot, a few of us Pharmalot "refugees" have founded the site, "Pharmalittle" - http://pharmalittle.blogspot.com/ This is an all-volunteer, unfunded effort. Needless to say, it ain’t no Pharmalot. But we do our best to keep some of the conversations going and, to our great satisfaction, that is what is happening.
Hope to see you there.

Preemption will be coming up in Congress & the Senate in the next few months. I encourage everyone to write to their respective Congressmen/Women and Senators regarding your feelings about "preemption". It is very wrong and destroys our civil rights as Americans. It is not only for Pharmaceuticals but for Medical Device Manufacturers as well. If Congress & the Senate is bombarded with concerns of ordinary citizens of this country, perhaps they will sit up and take notice. Don't let the big, greedy, corporations take away our day in court....nor the Supreme Justice system. The big corporations are hiding under the "blanket" of the FDA. Why shouldn't they - our Government is allowing it to happen. Please write all and everyone you can think of. As a 42 year RN in the Medical field, I can say that this is outrageous.

i am very sorry for whats happening to your wife. Thats one of the reasons RESPONCE"S comment made me so angry saying we need an escape goat. No we dont need an excape goat

allowing preemption would be a terrible mistake...........
imagine how lapse they would be if they had nothing to worry about as far as law suites.
i truly beleive obaba will not let this happen.
i hope with all my heart for our kids and grandkids he will not allow preemption

My wife is dying because of a diet pill she took ten years ago. Our family will never be the same. Everyday I look at my wife and know my timed is limited with her. She is only 54 years old and we have been married 37 years.Although I have 2 daughters and 7 grandchildren I don't know how to live without her. She has pulmonary hypertension caused by this diet drug.Pre-emption would let the big drug company get by with killing people. Wonderful, loving and caring people like my wife. The drug companies will hide anything they can just to keep the drugs on the market.Even knowing they were killing people. I sure hope Obama is willing to help us.

Yes we have become a pill-popping nation but never underestimate the power of persuation when considering how we got to the point where we so willingly believe that we have all these bogus diseases.

We've got non-stop commercials and half the doctors in this country are now little more than legal drug-pushers.

I used to be a member of the pill-popping population but after investigating Big Pharma steady since mid-2004, I'd have to be dying before I'd take a drug that wasn't on the market for at least 10 years.

And I'd ask the prescribing doctors if he has any affiliation whatsoever with the drug's maker.

I'd take none that were approved by the Bush Administration's FDA.

Lets face it folks we, the U.S., is a pill-popping nation and we want to take more and more pills to make our ailments go away. (And its easy to do) Drug companys are in the business to help people, but they are also in the business to make money. Medicine has come a long way, and is certainly much more advanced than it was. People are living longer. It would be illogical to expect someone to turn away from medical treatment because a few cases of something going wrong. Would you expect people to stop going to doctors and deny themselves treatment because of this and that we "must" prove all of medicine wrong first before taking them.
How many people are better off today with modern medicine? Alot. That being said, the FDA does and has an obligation to do its "due diligence" when giving the "okay" to highly sensitive drugs coming to market. Obama and co need to do their due diligence with the next FDA. There are risks to everything in life and we all need to stop looking for a scapegoat when something goes wrong.

PREENPTION... this should never happen.
If our children or grandchildren are hurt or die as a result of negelence from the phar company' drugs we should be able to make them responsible.
Premption i feel will make them more lapsed in there research because they are protected by this.
What happened to justice for all.
