Were no lessons learned from Thalidomide?..

Paxil and now Avandia, shouldn't both be taken off the market urgently?

"In May 2007, a study in The New England Journal of Medicine reported that Avandia could raise the risk of heart attack by 43 percent.

Glaxo upgraded the warnings on Avandia’s label more than a dozen times between 1999 and the 2007 including a Black Box (see here). One change, in 2001, said the drug could lead to excessive edema, which in turn could lead to congestive heart failure."

Gee heart attacks, CHF, edema (CHF also causes edema it's not necessarily vica versa).

From the labeling: Increased bone fractures and not to use with nitrates. Myocardial ischemic events included angina pectoris, angina pectoris aggravated, unstable angina, cardiac arrest, chest pain, coronary artery occlusion, dyspnea, myocardial infarction, coronary thrombosis, myocardial ischemia, coronary artery disease, and coronary artery disorder. In this analysis, an increased risk of myocardial ischemia with AVANDIA versus pooled comparators was observed (2% AVANDIA versus 1.5% comparators, odds ratio 1.4,

This is sounding repetitive. Looks a lot like all those other drugs with effects on serotonin and serotonin like receptors (i.e. Bone Modification Resorption Protein 2 and sMAD).

Big pharma is like a bully on the playground. They think they can intimidate people because they have billions of dollars in income and can afford the best law firms to scare people into submission. These tactics have and will continue to expose the ugly truth to the general public.

Is it any wonder that the public perception of these companies is so low?

Off-label, misleading, twisted promotion, covering up side effects, and how about that Providgil pricing tactic recently reported?

The average consumer is beginning to see, its all about profits, not patients with big pharma.

"This story will be lost in congressional hearings and behind closed door negotiations until 3 years from now when a monetary settlement will be made. Glaxo will admit no wrong-doing and nobody will really remember what the allegations were about."

Yes, I agree, a classic Glaxo tactic, if this "corporation" was an individual it would be serving multiple life sentences without parole, but it seems that big pharma's like GSK are indeed above the law.

Marilyn,

This is the PharMafia at their best.

No need to cause uproar with a messy assassination, when intimidation and a few payoffs to the right people will accomplish the desired results.
