Wyeth Cuts 300 Jobs At Manufacturing Plants

The drugmaker is eliminating 70 positions at its Pearl River, New York, facility, which employs 3,200 people, 118 workers at its Rouses Point plant in upstate New York, where 725 people work, and 124 jobs at its Sanford, North Carolina plant.
The cutbacks are hardly surprising, though, as Wyeth looks to reduce by 6 percent its global workforce of appoximately 50,000 employees by year’s end. So far, this has involved laying off more than 2,000 sales reps and reducing R&D by going from 14 to 6 therapeutic areas (back story), a move that lopped off 80 positions. The Rouses Point facility is actually going to be closed altogether and has a deal to sell the plant. And Wyeth signaled recently that jobs would be cut at the Sanford plant.
