Who says we only bring you depressing news? Just one week after updating our regular tally of industry layoffs, Charles River Laboratories plans to invest $20 million to build a research center and warehouse in Charleston, South Carolina, and create an estimated 60 jobs, The Charleston Post-Courier reports.
Of course, not even contract-research organizations are escaping the recession and pharma’s own structural problems. In its recent quarterly report, Charles River execs acknowledged that drugmakers are pushing back contract research and development work. Whether that will result in job cuts remains to be seen.
