The Life Of One Sales Rep On The Silver Screen

Five years ago, a former Pfizer rep named Jamie Reidy penned a tell-all memoir about his stint hustling Viagra, among other drugs, and caused a stir with his efforts to peel back the curtain on how marketing really takes place. Now, the book has been made into a movie that transforms the story line into a predictable romance. Whether the film attempts to accomplish the same thing remains to be seen. For the curious, however, this is trailer…

Nice to see you back, Ed. A second movie in five years about drug reps (the first one was “Side Effects” with katherine Heigl in 2005). People can spend their $10 and see whatever they want, but for my money, I plan to see a movie about a real American, Pat Tillman. Video trailer below for “The Tillman Story”.

There are lots of former-pharma-rep YouTubes about busting pharma, but didn’t take a detour into Hollywood. It wasn’t some awakening that sent them blowing whistle, it was the same character trait that took them to the job in the first place: ethics are for the rest of us.
By that way, what was that piece of merde that hit my inbox yesterday, purportedly from Pharmalot? It’s gone, and so will this be if I get any more like that.

These folks no not of what they speak. I started right out of Grad School at Pfizer. Left after 2 years 7 months, being an overqualified female. To head onward and upward into Biotech sales at Genentech, promoted to Division Manager in less than a year, and promoted again. Left after 5 years after being allured to another startup Biotech, MedImmune, as one of 5 Regional Business Directors. My team consisted of 45 folks, 2 MD’s, 2 Pharmacists, a couple of PhD’s (myself included) and we were 1st in the Country all but 1 of my years there. This was a clinical consultancy with our MD’s, PhD’s, RNP’s, PharmD’s and Pharmacists. WE were invited by our customers to their hospitals, their offices, their acute care units, transplants, and such. So try to get it right!

Kim, I’m impressed with all of the degrees that you and your colleagues have acquired. I have a few initials after my name as well. One thing that you may wish to further acquire would be a sense of humor. Being pedantic on a thread that is headlined by a video from a comedy movie may not be the best way to proceed. We have enough other threads that are actually serious for you to post your academic credentials.

I made the mistake of reading (or starting) Reidy’s book a few years ago. It was all narcissism and self-promotion. The dude is a self-rep.
