Pharmalot… Pharmalittle… The Weekend Nears
5 CommentsBy Ed Silverman // February 10th, 2012 // 7:55 am
And so, another working week is about to draw to a close. Hooray…. This is, of course, our treasured signal to daydream about weekend plans. Our agenda is, as always, rather modest. We may connect with old friends, catch up on some reading and promenade with the official Pharmalot mascots. And you? Perhaps this is a good time to reach out to someone special or tidy up around your own campus. Or you could curl up with a good e-book and tune out the noisy world. Whatever you do, have a grand time, but be safe. See you soon…

Inquiring minds want to knw – or may have forgotten the answer? – is the graphic of a canine presented today “an authentic Pharmalot mascot” or “a celebrity body double?”

The proposed newly expanded DSM would be funny if the consequences weren’t so serious.
What next? Typing Deficiency Disorder? Instant Messaging Challenged?

Folks, please remember that the DSM was specifically designed NOT to be a treatment manual. It is a diagnostic manual, a necessarily evil for reimbursement purposes no better or worse than the ICD-10 diagnostic codes for other illnesses.
The practicing psychiatrist who uses the DSM is not constrained in any way as to the type of therapy he or she will select, or whether therapy is even justified at all.

Tim, you are close. I would rather say “antidepressant deficiency disorder”.
